Can we Meet our Carbon Targets and Still Run the Internet?
- Opening keynote: 9.50 - 10.35
The Government is signed up to 80% reduction in the
amount of CO2 being used by 2050 but at the moment more and more
energy is being diverted to meet the needs of the internet,
computerisation and servers. A number of solutions have already
been found to deal with the burgeoning electric cost of energy, if
we are to meet our carbon target we will need to completely
redesign the grid. What will the low carbon grid look
like?

Managing the complexity of change on the network -
closing keynote 3.05- 3.50
By its very nature, the IT network is ever-changing. Keeping
pace with this change or better still, proactively managing it, is
a major challenge for any organisation. To manage change effective
(thus minimising risks, reducing costs and achieving goals in a
timely manner) requires a careful blend of people, processes and
technology – all working in concert. From audit and inventory,
through to self-service and integrated IT Service Management,
organisations need to take an integrated and holistic approach to
managing IT operations.
